In Colorado psilocybin has already been largely de-criminalized, with Prop. 122 coming into effect in 2025 bringing even more changes. If you’re as excited as we are at Almadelic for this change, here are a few fungi films that are either trippy or educational to get you into the right headspace for 2025-and beyond.
Fantastic Fungi - Watch it on: Netflix, Amazon Prime (rent/buy)
With Oscar winner Brie Larson as its narrator, Fantastic Fungi dives into everything related to mycology, the study of fungi. With interviews from experts ranging from biologists to chefs, Fantastic Fungi is a great place to start familiarizing yourself with all that our fungi friends can do for humankind. The documentary features beautiful shots of mushrooms in nature and even interviews with patients who have received psilocybin treatments. It will make you want to take a walk in the woods-and a trip into your own mind.
Annihilation - Watch it on: Paramount +, PlutoTV, Peacock, Amazon Prime (rent/buy)
Natalie Portman and Oscar Isaac star in this sci-fi mind bender. When her husband disappears after a mysterious expedition into the government-controlled Area X, a biologist joins an expedition of her own hoping to get some answers. Soon, the crew is faced with the horror and beauty that lies within the boundaries of Area X and they realize nothing is what it seems. This film takes a lot of real science behind fungi and twists it, leaving the viewer to question the reality and sanity of the film.
Dosed - Watch it on: Kanopy
This documentary follows the journey of a woman battling addiction. After years of being let down by traditional medicine to cure her mental health problems, Adrianne tries psychedelic cures like magic mushrooms. Raw, emotional, and unfiltered, this documentary explores not only the depths of how addiction and trauma affect us, but how psychedelics can have a hand in healing us. Rather than focusing strictly on science, Dosed shows the emotional side of psychedelics and aims to open the viewer’s mind to the possibilities of what they can offer us.
Gaia - Watch it on: Hulu, Amazon Prime (buy/rent)
When an injured forest worker is rescued by two survivalists, safety isn’t a guarantee. This South African horror movie explores what true devotion to nature looks like and what it costs. As Gabi recovers from her injuries, her reality becomes harder and harder to grasp onto and she becomes increasingly wary of her saviors. Described as psychedelic eco-horror, this one isn’t for the faint-hearted.
Alice in Wonderland (1951) - Watch it on: Amazon Prime, Disney Plus
After the more intense offerings on this list, unwind with this Disney animated classic. An adaptation from the equally trippy Lewis Carroll story, we follow Alice as she goes down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. A daydreamer on the surface, Alice wishes for life to become more exciting, and her wish is granted tenfold once she enters Wonderland. Some things make her grow, others make her shrink, and really nothing makes sense. Beautifully animated by some of Disney’s best, this whimsical and colorful journey will have you wondering when tea time is and asking 'Who-who-who are you?'
When Psilocybin is legalized in Colorado next year, Almadelic will be there to help! Currently, we provide a link between patients and providers for psychedelic therapies in three states. Visit our website to learn more.
